They Understood not

Christ was born in a manger, not in some hospital bed.
He rested upon some straw, no pillow for His head.

Humbly He entered the world, and humbly would He leave.
Much to humbly for His disciples, and followers to believe.

They understood not His mission or what He came to do.
They understood not the love, He showed to all He knew.

They thought His kingdom would be on this earth.
They understood not that it was of eternal worth.

They thought He’d come to conquer Rome,
They thought on earth He’d make His home.

They realized not what He had come to do,
Or the price He’d pay, just to save me and you.
